Prairie Style
Residence

Urbana, Ohio

McCall Sharp Architecture designed this home to enhance and enrich the owner's everyday lives. The objective was to create a home that projects a feeling of shelter and warmth, filling the interior with natural light and openness of flowing space. The wide overhangs serve to protect the house from the hot summer sun and the harsh winter rain and snow. The exterior brick planters serve to transition the house to the site. They also provide an intermediate space for natural planting to occur.

The ceiling heights of the interior spaces varies four times from 7' to 12' enhancing the vertical sense of space and providing variation and enrichment for the clients' everyday living. The clerestory windows in the living Room provide natural light from above. This light filters down and over the interior planting ledges adding an element of nature to the interior. All interior wood surfaces are made of cherry. The use of horizontal lines and the use of one material unifies the interior space and provides continuity to the flowing spaces.
