Designed
by s.o.m from Chicago, City Hall was originally built in 1979.
Over the years, the building began to show the effects of its
aging. The project consisted of four major components to bring
a fresh look to the Core Block.
The
IRMA Roof System was rapidly deteriorating and was replaced with
a modified bittumen system over a new light weight insulating
concrete fill.
The
precast panels and columns were chemically cleaned and sealed
against airborne particulates and pollution.
The
underground parking garage had been leaking for years. New technology,
although expensive, allowed for replacement of the water proofing
system over 50% of the garage.
The
building's brutal style of architecture was softened and made
more inviting by the introduction of low landscaping planters,
trees and ADA accessible ramps. The quarry tile plaza was replaced
with a composition tile system that will not deteriorate. The
paving pattern provides visual interest to the plaza and complements
the building design. |
