The Petticrew Center for Adult Care is a new 2,770 square foot addition to the St. John’s Center Nursing Home, Springfield, Ohio. With most of the clients suffering from some form of Dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease, this facility waas designed to be as soothing and home-like as possible to alleviate any disorientation the clients might feel in a new surrounding. The focal point is an exterior, enclosed garden/patio with raised planting beds that the clients tend themselves. A covered area allows them to enjoy the garden even during inclement weather. The barrel-vaulted ceiling of the main room is painted a calming pale blue and decorated with maple trim. The exterior complements the existing structure and yet maintains its own distinct identity. The Project cost $390,000 and was completed in December. 1993.
